Hey guys. If you follow my work, then you probably have realized I have been mostly absent the past few days. Don't worry! I am still around! Life is just getting busier and some other things have to take priority. However I am still actively monitoring volcanic areas and checking recent quakes so anything major that occurs will definitely be reported. In this post I am going to quickly show some data pertaining to 2 earthquakes that occurred today. A M2.3 in New Hampshire and a M2.2 in Texas. As usual, please click the title of this post or "read more" to continue... In this post I am going to talk about some of the recent seismicity at Yellowstone Caldera Super-Volcano in Wyoming. I will also show some info and data pertaining to a M3.1 that recently struck on the border of the Florida panhandle and Alabama. Also, the Tanaga Volcano in Alaska saw some interesting large, and somewhat deep, earthquakes. As always, please click the title of this post or "read more" to continue... In this post I am going to quickly talk about the most recent eruption from the time I am writing this. The most recent eruption was the 9th one of 2019 (also the 41st eruption since it reactivated in early-2018). This recent eruption carried the smallest amplitude ever recorded on seismic station YNM, the closest station to Steamboat Geyser. Although the amplitudes were much smaller, it is surprising to note that this eruption put out more water than the previous eruption. As usual, please click the title of this post or "read more" to continue... This past week of seismicity in the USA, and the world as well, has sure kept many amateur and professional seismologists busy! Alot of different things have been occurring lately and many different swarms and larger-than-normal quakes have been striking some odd areas. In this post I will deal with the recent strong M3.4 that hit Tennessee, a strange but normal looking M4.1 hit Poland in Europe, and Steamboat Geyser erupted for the 8th time of 2019 (the 40th time since it reactivated in early-2018). As usual, please click the title of this post or read more to continue... Some pretty crazy seismic events have been transpiring in some strange locations ever since a good sized solar wind stream struck our planet. Don't know if those two processes are connected, but the timing of seismicity with other past solar wind streams seem to indicate there might be some type of connection. I will not get into that in this post. I will instead detail the info and seismic data pertaining to a M3.0 that recently struck at 44.0km in depth near Salem, Oregon, a M3.8 that struck near Manhattan, Montana, a M7.5 earthquake that struck at 132.4km in depth in Ecuador, and then I will detail one of the more interesting swarms I have ever seen. As always, please click the title of this post or "read more" to continue if you have not done so already... In this post I will detail the info and seismic data pertaining to three earthquakes that occurred across the USA within about 3 hours of each other. They weren't too crazy but all 3 seemed to have occurred with other events. I will mainly show the reported events and some of the unreported events as well. One occurred in California near Belden, another occurred in Utah, and the other one occurred at the Yellowstone Super-Volcano. The one at Yellowstone actually occurred in a strange location: far to the west of Old Faithful but also far to the south of Maple Creek. If you have not already, please click the title of this post or "read more" to continue. Hey guys. In this post today I will briefly show some info and data regarding 3 earthquakes that occurred in the past day or so of me writing this. The M4.6, shown first, struck about 80km or so off of Hawaii's southern tip. Could this deep-ish earthquake be related to the magnificient and mysterious Hawaii events that occurred on January 23, 2019? They were after all some of the most impressive and strange seismic events I have ever seen. As usual, please click the title of this post or "read more" if you haven't done so already. In this blog post, I will show some info and seismic data to some very peculiar seismic events. One occurred in Alaska, with a possible unreported event just prior, and the rest of the strange events I will talk about occurred in Hawaii. The main focus of the post, however, is the events that occurred in Hawaii. I really do not have a logical interpretation for these events so it would be wonderful if someone could help me understand what these are! Obviously USGS doesn't really understand their origins either, otherwise they would not have been labeled as "Other Event". If you have not already, please click the title of this post or "read more" to continue. In this post I will show some data and info regarding the earthquake swarm that recently has been occurring near Petrolia, California where the Cascadia Subduction Zone ends. This was a moderate swarm but did contain some good sized earthquakes. This post will deal with the activity between 00:00UTC February 2, 2019 to 04:47UTC February 4, 2019. Also, this swarm was associated with a decrease in seismic activity throughout the United States (except for Montana and Petrolia, CA). Some pretty interesting seismicity has been occurring lately. First off, there was a M4.6 (originally M4.7) yesterday off the coast of Maryland. Now this is not too crazy but is pretty dang notable since we never really see that many events around this size, in this area. Now the characteristics of this event are much more interesting than the rarity of it. Does the data provided possibly indicate some of type of large collapse off the coast of Maryland? Remember I am not a professional so I do not know for sure. However the evidence is quite compelling. We will take a look at the data for that earthquake and also look at the data for the M4.0 in Kansas and the recent Steamboat Geyser eruption last night. As usual, please click the title of this post or "read more" to continue (if you are not already on this post)... Some very strange events have happened at Yellowstone supervolcano in Wyoming. What could these events mean for the caldera? Well I don't know exactly yet, but I do believe another round of uplift could be starting for the infamous caldera. On January 13, 2019, a few earthquakes maxing out at M2.4 struck right near the northern tip of Yellowstone lake, striking very close to the epicenter of the concerning 2008-2009 dike intrusion of Yellowstone Lake. Today's activity was small, yes, but maybe more important than many other swarms that has hit this area in recent years. This blog post will take a very quick look at some of the events that transpired today. Don't worry, I will be doing a video on this tomorrow night (from the time I am writing this: 9:42pm PST 1/13/2019). As always, please click the title of this post or "read more" to continue!!! Hey guys, sorry I have not been doing too many blog posts lately. I have been spending alot of time with family and with my research. I have uploaded multiple YT videos lately so go check that out if you want. Just goto YouTube and search "Ben Ferraiuolo". My seismo blog here will have new content added to still, yes, but I have created some new pages in the past month or so under "Seismic Events" and "Seismic Events 2". Under those dropdown menus, there are many different pages. Some of the pages are blogs. I am now posting some of my research under those two drop down menus, "Seismic Events" and "Seismic Events 2". So please remember to always check under there if you have not seen a blog post from me in a while. I am still around and am trying to upload as much as my research as possible onto my website here. I will be back soon and this was just a quick update. Yellowstone saw some interesting activity on New Years Eve 2018. Want to find out about it? Goto the "Seismic Events" dropdown menu and click "Yellowstone". God bless and I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year! Happy 2019!
