STOP! First, if you have not seen the original blog post about these peculiar events please CLICK HERE or simply backspace and find the blog post with close to the same title as this post here. Most of the information will be in the first blog post. This is just a continuation of that post with additional data for September 24-25. Please click "read more" below. As you have seen in the previous blog post about these events, some strange signals have been appearing at Mt Rainier. They are small but still very interesting. Some appear to be surface events and others seem to be closer, in regards to characteristics, to a DLP. Whatever it is, it seems to be increasing. In order for me to confirm an event, I cross correlate their arrivals using multiple seismic stations at Mt Rainier and the seismic program WAVES. Most of the events I showed appeared on 4 out of 5 seismic stations around Rainier. There were a few, however, that appeared only on 3 seismic stations due to their low amplitude. Now on the off chance that all of these signals are from avalanches or glacial movement, why is there such a change occurring on the volcano? Could the mountain be swelling causing the glaciers to move more than usual? Who knows. There is still alot that is unknown about these events but they do seem to be increasing. September 23 saw 5 events, September 24 saw 7 events, and so far for September 25 there have been 9 events. That is 20 confirmed events for about the past 3 days! If they are related to glacial movement, something is seriously shifting on the volcano. Below are the seismogram/spectrogram analysis images for these events. The last analysis image in my previous Rainier blog post was for September 24 19:04UTC so we will start with the event that occurred after this time period. I will be using seismic station RCS for the analysis images but remember they must show on a minimum, absolute minimum, of 3 out of 5 seismic stations. The strongest amplitude events do show on all 5 seismic stations. The first confirmed event on September 24, 2018 after the 19:04UTC event shown last in my previous Rainier blog post. I am basically starting where I left off. Remember to always pay attention to chart labels! Remember in school that they taught us to read the labels on a graph/chart FIRST, then read the data. Another very peculiar event. Note the low-mid range frequencies and slightly emergent characteristics usually indicative of a strong surface event? How can these all be avalanches or glacier tremors? It is cold up there right now! I would expect this type of movement during the summer maybe, but not now! Over 20 events in 3 days? Hmmmm... The last event discovered so far for September 25, 2018. The day is not over yet so more could still appear. So what has been going on recently? Are glaciers and snow pack really shifting this much even with how cold it is up there right now? Or is this related to Mt. Rainier's hydrothermal system and the recent shallow earthquake swarm? If this really is related to glacier movement and avalanches, is it normal for it to have happened over 20 times in the past 3 days? We will keep a close eye on it. Just thought you guys would want to know! Feel free to email me or comment below. Have a great day guys and God bless!!!
