Steamboat geyser in the Norris Geyser Basin has officially erupted for the 26th time. The all time record was achieved in 1964 when it erupted 29 times. We are approaching the end of the year but if these eruptions continue at near the same pace, then it will beat the record by the time the year ends. The 26th eruption occurred at 23:16UTC on November 7, 2018 (4:16pm Mountain Time, November 7, 2018). Below are the two helicorder images of this event along with two 3-plot analysis images. Please ALWAYS read chart labels first!
YNM felt this eruption the strongest. YNR felt it 2nd and B950 did not feel this event at all. Why? The vibrations you see are most likely only surface vibrations of this event, not the vibrations from the free-flow of super-heated water leading to an eruption.
