On July 1, 2019, three separate volcanic spasmodic tremor events were detected at the usual depth and location as past spasmodic tremor. I have talked about these many times in previous videos and blog posts. These are occurring because of mass magma transport along the mantle plume conduit. It has been less than a week since the last spasmodic tremor "swarm". Uplift also continues at the Mauna Loa summit, the Kilauea summit, and along the Kilauea East Rift Zone. There is a great deal of magma that is feeding the many sub-surface magma reservoirs on the Big Island of Hawaii. As usual, please click the title of this post or "read more" to continue...

Well, it has been over 3 weeks since the last moderate to major spasmodic tremor swarm hit the Big Island of Hawaii. However, on June 25-26, 2019, volcanic spasmodic tremor has returned to the Big Island! It was not as strong as previous spasmodic tremor this year, however it was a resurgence nevertheless. I will show seismic plots from 4 select seismic stations across the Big Island and I will also include seismic audio for each event. Well it has been more than a week since the last burst of spasmodic tremor, formerly called deep long period high frequency events by myself. Last night there was a very quick resurgence of spasmodic tremor, occurring in the same location and depths as many of the other ones have since January 2019. I will show a bunch of data pertaining to these events. Seismic audio is also included for the 5 spasmodic tremor events that occurred in Hawaii on June 1, 2019. Hope you enjoy! Well guys it has been a while since we have seen a true DLP-HFE (deep long period, high frequency event). I believe it occurred twice in the past week but today, May 15, 2019, these events returned with a vengeance! Over 9 of these strange deep seismic events struck between 37km and 46km in depth off the coast of Pahala, Hawaii, off the southern section of the Big Island of Hawaii. In this post I will show you my theory as to what is causing these events. I will also show a great deal of seismic plots as well. I accidentally posted this on my seismo-blog, instead of my Hawaii blog here. Oh well! CLICK HERE to visit the post about these events! The activity in Hawaii is far from over! For a few days there were extremely low rates of seismicity all across the Big Island of Hawaii. Then, all of a sudden, a strong M5.3 struck the Big Island and almost 2,000 people reported to USGS within hours that they felt this event. Although one would assume this M5.3 struck near Kilauea, it did not! Surprisingly, it struck just to the NE of a dormant volcano called Hualalai. Hualalai has not erupted since the 1800's but if this seismicity was related to a type of magma event, it is possible Hualalai could be recharging for a soon-coming eruption. That is not for sure, but it is possible. Also, just 6 hours or so after the M5.3, another strong deep long period, high frequency event struck near Pahala, Hawaii. If you follow my work, you know I am fascinated with them. In this post I will show some information and data pertaining to these two events. Here we go once again! On March 30, 2019 more DLP-HF events occurred under the Big Island of Hawaii. These DLP-HF (deep long period, high frequency) events, as I like to call them, seem to be happening much more lately. They occur primarily between 30km and 50km in depth under Pahala, Hawaii and can last a great amount of time. What is causing these events? Mass amounts of magma flowing through the main conduit from the mantle plume to the volcanoes? I don't know and I won't pretend to know. I will simply show some data and I suggest, if you know how to analyze seismic data, to check these events out for yourself. If you haven't already, please click the title of this post or "read more" to continue... Between March 27 and March 28, 2019, three extremely odd seismic events were detected on virtually every seismic station across the Big Island of Hawaii. They are emergent, meaning they slowly build, they primarily occur between 30km and 50km in depth, they travel quite far compared to their relatively low amplitudes, they carry mid to high range frequencies and can last anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 hour. Information and data as of 2:20UTC March 28, 2019 (7:20pm Pacific Time, March 27, 2019) Post last updated/posted: 5:32UTC March 28, 2019 (10:32pm Pacific Time, March 27, 2019) On March 13, 2019, a very strong M5.5 earthquake struck just to the SE of the infamous Kilauea Caldera volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii. A great many people felt this event and, as you will see in a bit, this was the largest earthquake to strike the Big Island since the volcanic eruptions calmed in early-August 2018. About
This blog is specifically for activity that occurs in Hawaii. In light of 2018's eruptions on the Big Island, I felt it necessary to have a section entirely devoted to events in Hawaii. I now mostly use this blog to update people on volcanic spasmodic tremor which occurs deep within the mantle plume conduit(s) under Pahala, HI. Don't know what spasmodic tremor is? Don't fret! Simply go to the Hawaii menu and click the page about Hawaii Spasmodic Tremor. Archives
